Blitz3D Forums/Blitz3D Beginners Area/blitz3d with dx10

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#1]
is this possible??

Matty(Posted 2007) [#2]
very funny

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#3]
i'm an idiot, enlighten me.
(my bestest bud claims b3d doesn't work on vista and dx10)

Matty(Posted 2007) [#4]
Sorry, but I thought you meant you wanted to use dx10 features in blitz3d, if so not possible. Although I've never used vista I've heard it has no problems with blitz3d.

Barnabius(Posted 2007) [#5]
Blitz3D and Blitz3D created programs are running just fine under Vista. Blitz3D 3D engine is DX7 based and can't use any of DX10 stuff.

People are crying for a dx9 engine yet...

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#7]
(I know the b3d functions are limited to dx7)

Alright, I'll see what's going on...

Mortiis(Posted 2007) [#8]
It is possible only if you code a dx10 engine and wrap it for blitz3d. Apart from that, blitz3d runs under both vista and directx10.

Dreamora(Posted 2007) [#9]
Targetting DX10 is kind of pointless.
Only few of the Vista sold systems even support DX10. Without DX10 hardware you can not run it and even Vista Premium Ready does not mean DX10 conform.

did anybody actually read the third post??

Did chwaga read any post but the third?

Yupp, Blitz3D (even 1.98) runs without any problems under Vista. If it does not so from start, run the DXWebInstaller as Vista comes with a only part of the DX runtimes (feb 2007 9.0c and DX10)

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#13]
my friend is getting runtime errors about directx, that's all I know.

Dreamora(Posted 2007) [#14]
Most likely driver issue (ATI, Intel with not fully current drivers) or to lazy to install DX and asking himself why it does not work.

You can tell him what we suggested here and report back afterwards.

PS: another reason it might not work are missing DLLs if you used userlibs. Or if he is a "cool one" using an illegal version / outdated demo. Both will not work, you need at least Blitz3D 1.87 for Vista / XP with enabled bitexecute extension

Once I bought my brand new laptop with Vista installed,
the first game I installed wouldn't run too, because only parts of DX where installed, as Dreamora said.

So I installed DX9.0c and everything runs fine now, including B3D.
