Apply UV texture?

I use milkshape and it's texture coordinate editor (a simple UV editor) to model and export to my games, but when I run them, the model is mostly black with blue edges and what isn't is gray, the color it should be. How do you apply the right textures to the right places?

Sounds like it's textured with a UV template bitmap, containing the unwrapped Wireframe. Open the model in Notepad and see what texture is referenced.

(BTW: opening the model in Notepad should be the very last choice, when the modeling tool won't help and if you really want to see plain text. Of course you may have to search for the texture filename in a lot of non-text data. Then again, if you have a notepad link on your desktop, it's opened quickly)
