whats a good program that imports .3ds models
and exports them to .x??

for blitz there is no benifit or point to doing a 3ds to .x.
.3ds is an old format, no bones etc and, only segmented animation with limited texture names.

Milkshape ($25) is good.
Biturn (free) would work.
I personally normaly use Blender (free) for all my mesh needs. It is very good and best of all, FREE!

there use to be a tool in the directx sdk to do that.

yeah, in the dx sdk there's a small commandline converter that is capable of converting animation as well. I think its name was "conv3ds.exe", not sure tho.

Instead of downloading the huge SDK, you may try to find it somewhere on the web, eg:

Ok, I found it inside this zip file:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~xelag/3ds2x.zip
or from here:

PaceMaker loads .3ds and exports to DirectX(8/9) format.

Doesnt blitz upload 3ds anyways?

kfprimm(Posted 2006) [#8]
go with what jfk said...

If you have 3d Studio to begin with, there are some plugins you can get for free that let's you export as .X

I think Panda is one of them... though my memory is kind of hazy, haven't done Blitz3d nor 3d Studio for quite a while (damn my daytime job)
