.3ds vs .max

Hi all, What is the difference between .3ds and .max? Could we use .max in Blitz3d ? Thanks in advance. Sammy :) |

www.onigirl.com/pipeline Get the max exporter for blitz3d there. You do not use .3ds or .max You use .B3D and that is what the pipeline exporter will do for you. Blitz3D will load this perfectly (almost the same as max). |

a .max file is the native format in 3d Studio Max, which covers not only meshes but everything else such as lights, cameras, materials, modifier stacks - everything! Blitz won't load one of them... |

.max filkes can only be read by 3dsmax, or an app that includes some 3dsmax DLL's since a lot of data in the .max file is procedural and relies on some max libs to compile into the final scene. .3DS is a ancient format left over from the old Dos versions or 3D studio. Well behind the times as far as generic 3d formats go. Your best bet with Blitz is to use Blitz native .b3d files. One Eyed Jack covered that with his post above. You just can't beat B3D pipeline for 3dsmax :) |

Thanks a lot! Sammy :) |

How can I quickley look at a b3d mesh - Blitz3d allows you to open .x and .3ds files but not .b3d. |

How can I quickley look at a b3d mesh - Blitz3d allows you to open .x and .3ds files but not .b3d. You could open it in Tattoo. It loads a number of formats (.x, .3DS, .OBJ, .LWO, .B3D), so I tend to use it for regular sized objects. Click the link in my sig to download. |
