I`ve used Terragen for producing skybox`s in the past and it produces very realistic renderings for general landscaping. Howerver I`m looking at producing skyboxes that are much more diverse(fantasy, forest scenes etc..etc) Has anybody used either BRYCE or VUE D`ESPRIT :- - Can these packages produce images for use in a skybox? - how do you rate the 2 pieces of software? Thanks GP |

You can do skyboxes with ANY rendering software that allows you to set the FoV to 90 degrees (both Vue and Bryce can do that). My personal experiences: Bryce: Nice raytracer > nice raytraced water & metal, hard to use. Basically sucks. * A special thanks goes to Gavin Bell who wrote an earlier tutorial on skyboxes for Gamasutra.com back in October 1998. He mentioned a quirk in Bryce´s FOV camera setting, which would yield unwanted results if you used the typical 90° FOV, he suggests using a 112.5° FOV. That is what will be used here. http://www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=2986 Vue D'Esprit: "French" GUI and usage ideology, but produces nice raytraced images. Can do great skies, plants & water. I was a member of the beta team when v2 was in development, so I might be bit biased. :) http://binarybonsai.com/archives/2003/05/22/skyboxes/ http://www.e-onsoftware.com/Products/vue4pro/?Page=0&PrinterFriendly=1 If these are your choices, I'd choose Vue any day over Bryce. |
