Texture UVW... What's W?

Blitz3D Forums/Blitz3D Beginners Area/Texture UVW... What's W?

I'm certainly familiar with how texture UV data works... but what effect does the W value have? I've come across this before in other applications, but never found any clear explanation. ...So what's it do???

W does nothing in Blitz. It's just listed for future expansion.

A texture as you know it is 2D. W is for 3D textures. 3D textures aren't used much yet except in 3D rendering packages.

Sometimes the W will be used to combine a 2D and a 1D texture to make a pseudo 3D texture, for lighting for example, but again that's not something you can do in Blitz.

I had a feeling that'd be the case. Thanks for the info!

There's also this loose relation: xyz = uvw, but like Mr. S said usually we use and talk about UV-mapping since W is unused.

W is listed for a future expansion that would maybe never come ;)
