Windowed programs freeze

Blitz3D Forums/Blitz3D Beginners Area/Windowed programs freeze

When I run a windowed Blitz3D program, I click away from that window and back again it seems to freeze. Only thing I can do is to close the program and run it again. Why do Blitz programs freeze when click or switch to another program and back again?

Is it me ;-)

Perhaps because of the 3d mode. You aren't just switching between windows, but the computer has to recheck your desktop resolution and everything.

Dunno - just a guess......

They shouldn't. Well, at least here they don't :)

Have you got on on-board graphics card?

mrmango(Posted 2004) [#5]
Ahh.. found the thread. Yes, its a onboard running 2k.

Not switching resolutions, just a windowed screen.

Yeah you get stuck that way... If possible upgrade to AGP not on board AGP. : )

And don't release games that run 3D gfx in a window.

Put a Delay 10 at the end of your loop and see if that helps.

My thought exactly, Eikon.

Does clicking on the Blitz window to return the focus to it cause it to unfreeze. If so then this sounds like normal behaviour.

No it still freezes, here's the interesting thing. When I run the debug in Blitz. I click away then back, this includes minimising the window, Blitz debug dialog shows the program as paused. If I click continue button the program no longer freezes and I can continue. Tried the delay, it does seem to work.

Reason for the windowed version was just purely for testing...

Thanks

What result do you get using the 'Windowed3D()' command to test windowed 3D viability?

This worries me a bit as I'm working on a 3D game I want to run windowed.

The computer will only allow full screen mode in 3D. Interesting...

I think I will have to try a few more PC's and see what happens with them support 3D modes and wheither it freezes.

Thanks

Will post results.
