Hi All,

Our Mac just recently started acting strange:

* The log on screen use to show the password field straight away now it doesnt (only one user for this mac)

* When clicking on the logon icon, the password field displays for a split second then hides again (workaround seems to bash the keyboard a tad and then it works)

* When logged in, the top menu bar drop downs seem to be acting the same, you can click the Apple icon and the drop down displays for a split second then hides again (again hitting the keyboard seems to fix it)

We've tried a different mouse and tried a different USB connection, but they didnt fix it.

Has anyone had these kinds of issues before and if so do you know of a fix?

Thanks!

Sounds like a stuck key to me.

Thanks jhans0n!

Just tried a different keyboard (a PC USB one) and the issue has gone away!

We've got one of those flat white apple keyboards (http://store.apple.com/au/product/MB110LL/A)... how does one fix the "stuck key" on these? Also why hitting any key "fixed" the problem?

When dealing with a stuck key, just hit every key on the keyboard a few times, and it may unstick it.
Depending on the cause of the problem, it may or may not fix it, and the issue may come back.

It could literally be a sticky key that's stuck halfway down making a connection, or it could be something more low-level like a short-out in a circuit board that makes it look like a key is pressed down.
