I'm looking for some video editing software for the Mac that is preferably free. A few dollars (like $25-$40) is also good, but I'm not really willing to put up $2,000 or so dollars for software I'm only going to use on occasion. Does anyone have any suggestions for affordable video editing software that's high quality?

What about the included video editing software that everybody raves about?

iLife has some simple (yet good!) stuff? I use FCP myself and unfortunately it's a slippery slope! There's a 'lite' version of FCP on the official Mac site - Final Cut Express 4, for £129 (don't know the dollar equivalent but it's not in the thousands category!. I would heartily re commend the purchase - even if you are only dabbling, as unless you are extremely determined in only doing basic stuff, you'll only spend more money on it eventually - probably much sooner than you think!

Trust me, I know! Been there, got the T-shirt! If you haven't used Final Cut you're in for a treat, especially as you're enlightened enough to be using a Mac in the first place! ;)
