It looks like it's almost time to upgrade my Mac Mini.
Having some NVidia hardware in that little box will be sweet...
Especially for tinkering with Max3D whenever it arrives :-)

I left desktop machines behind a while ago, and have been using a MacBook as my main computer since then, but the rumored Mac Mini looks so sweet that I may get one to have in my bedroom.

I love my current 24" IMac and won't upgrade/downgrade. It just works flawless.

Brucey(Posted 2008) [#4]
I like my current Mac Mini. But there's plenty of room on my desk for two :-)

:)

I really want 2 mac minis, a PPC and an Intel one.

No new Mac Minis again... :(

Brucey(Posted 2009) [#7]
Maybe later... :-)

JaviCervera(Posted 2009) [#8]
Yeah, I still have faith.

This article is a bit old now (couple of weeks), but would you still buy a new Mac Mini if this is true?

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/apple-mac-nvidia-ion,6849.html

To me, its like 2 steps forward for the gpu and 5 steps back for the cpu...

JaviCervera(Posted 2009) [#10]
Yeah, I think I would get it anyway.

By the way, I'm not getting a *new* computer anytime soon, since I've been spending my money on classic computers lately. On Christmas, I got a Commodore 64 with a mouse, 2 joysticks, a cassette and a disk drive, and some disks, tapes and cartridges with games and the GEOS operating system.

And this same week, I bought on eBay a Macintosh Plus with the original packaging, disks & manuals, and an iMac G3, the computer that saved the company in the late 90's.

Its out!!!

And its still got a Core 2 Duo...

(Plus they have updated the iMacs & Mac Pros)

Brucey(Posted 2009) [#12]
New onboard NVidia should be a big improvement.

Time to start saving, I think :-)

Winni(Posted 2009) [#13]
Nice as it is, but I think the new Macs that Apple introduced yesterday are overpriced.

JaviCervera(Posted 2009) [#14]
I am tempted to get one as soon as Snow Leopard is released, but the fact is that I don't really need it. A laptop much better fits my needs, and the only thing I miss on my 1st-gen MacBook is a good gfx card, so updating to the new white MacBook would make more sense to me than getting a Mini...

therevills(Posted 2009) [#15]
Bought one last night :)

Rang NextByte (Oz Apple Shop) and they told us it would take a week to get the standard minis in and if you do the build to order it would take 2 to 3 weeks....

So we rang Apple up and placed an order for:

Mac mini
2.26Ghz Core 2 Duo
2GB RAM
120GB HDD

We decided on the low hdd model as you can easily pick up a USB/FW external ones...

The Apple guy said we should have it by mid-week (next week)...

Cant wait :)

I bought one yesterday.

It's Awesome! :-)

therevills(Posted 2009) [#17]
We got our new one on Wednesday... its really great!

Its been awhile since we bought a computer (normally we would buy parts and put it together) and it was so good just to plug stuff in and it to work straight out of the box!

Now wheres that post about universal binary? ;-)

I hate the mac mini, its much better value for money getting a white macbook because:

- its faster than the mac mini
- it has 1 gig more memory
- you automatically have a dual display (heaven for coding)
- you can go mobile with it :P

plus all the other stuff, you get dvd drive, webcam, keyboard, etc

I'm pretty sure all thats worth the £170 extra to me...

Dreamora(Posted 2009) [#19]
I'm not sure how keyboard and DVD are a plus as they are present on the mac mini too, as the majority of other things that are present on the mac book other than the screen obviously.

Also the mac mini features more connectors actually, you can attach 2 real screens, not 13" of uselessness and a real screen

The white MacBook isn't faster.
The MacMini has more FSB + DDR3 RAM (white MacBook only DDR2) and both 2GB RAM (you can get 4GB for both).

The MacMini should be much faster than the white! MacBook.
