Is there such a thing as a registry in the Mac? If so how do I use it?

No, but you can always put your app settings in

~/Library/Preferences/

There is kind of a registry in MacOS, but it's for hardware-stuff only.

Is there any way to hide stuff well? I'm thinking application run timers etc..

The best way to do so would probably be to encrypt it. Do files that start with a fullstop (.) get hidden in Finder (away from my iBook so can't test it)?

As a side note Mark posted some rather obscure code a while back to find the users preference folder on OSX. I can't find it now, but used it in my blackjack game which you can get the source from here http://www.ragtag.net/games (its at the top and commented). Works like a charm, at least on Tiger.

I found a way to embed the detail within other files. Thanks anyway :)
