Noooooo... Intel crap in my Mac...

Nicolas.

I felt the same but I also feel the PowerPC is near the end of the line, IBM are now moving over to the Cell, and Apple have been planning this for 5 years.

The move should be as smooth as the 68000 > PPC move, they have the emu layer in place and working, Intel Mac Devkits are available within a couple of weeks.

It will mean faster laptops, faster desktops and of course all with a superb OS and dev tools like XCode.

After watching the WWDC webcast I can say I agree with you NigelC.

I don't think it's a big deal, these days so much stuff is abstracted that people don't even know what a CPU is.

cp what?

can't imagine why they've not switched to the cell.

100million dot products per second compared to 4 mil on the fatest x86.

I suspect IBM demanding killer license fees for Apple to use them in the mac..

That's probably not that much use for rendering windows, text, dialog boxes, etc. I thought I read that the Cell's strengths were mainly in floating point operations, and more specifically when apps are written to be multithreaded... and that it was relatively useless (or at least no great improvement) for desktop use.

That is correct James. There's an interesting article about the Cell chip on Real World Tech.
