Just switched over to linux. Spent the last few days installing packages, and stressing over getting bmax to compile under 64bit ubuntu.

Thanks to everyone for posting howto info here... would never have
figured this out, being a linux newbie..

slightly worrying performance issues before editing a certain config
file - now everything is running smoothly - gimp and blender also
working nicely.. awesome!

now all i need to do is spend the next 2000 years reading up on
linux and getting used to working with a command prompt again :p

anyway thanks again...

My advice is get a small notebook and write down everything you learn from the occasional fiddily linux stuff (like installing bmax) or any term commands while it is still fresh in your head, that way you have a nice easy reference.
One or two years/versions/installs later and you will likely no longer need it, but in the beginning mine was invaluable until i got a proper feel for using it.
