Where do packages install to?

I'm playing around with Ubuntu 6.10 and have installed a few packages from the manager.
I installed a Python editor + source code examples but I just don't know where the source code is.

What folder should I look in?

I tried serching for *.py and got a list of what seems to be functions which do nothing at all when I run them.

Is there a general way to find out where things went?

Um... well I'm a dumbass, but considering there's been no replies...

The .tar.gz file goes to: /var/cache/apt/archives

Where the actual files that are unzipped go to can be found in the synaptic package manager. Find the package you installed, right-click on it and select properties and then go to the installed files tab.

Thanks Uber. I found the files exactly as you described
