Can anyone recommend me a cheap USB wifi card (11g) that works out of the box with Ubuntu Edgy Eft? Tried looking up Linux friendly cards but there's always conflicting reports out there.

Try googling for "ubuntu wifi compatibility"

NO!

Oh, the hours i wasted with a belkin.

saying that though, got pissed off and bought an expensive netgear WG511T (Atheros CS?) seems to work first time and well OOTB. Its PCMCIA though not usb

Advice: stay away from most of the cheap and cheerful otherwise you wont be cheerful for long.

Mine's a NetGear WG111T at the moment. I thought ng was a decent make but this thing is awful. No luck using it with Linux (which I can forgive), but the Windows drivers are rubbish and it keeps overheating and bombing out.
