I have a spare computer and I'd like to install linux on it and use it to listen to my electronic music collection. So my questions are:

What (free) flavour of Linux? given I really only need this for playing music.

Recommend me a music player for Linux. Pref one that supports replay of .wma lossless.

Cheers

Well, I would be inclined to set up a desktop-less distro and install some command line music player and a web based utility to drive it.

or, Xubuntu (which is normal Ubuntu with a very basic windowing system, light on resources).

I think you might struggle with playback of WMA. You may be facing a few hours of transcoding to FLAC (which is the lossless codec of choice under Linux).

It is possible that MPlayer may either natively support WMA lossless, or support can be added.
